The Beautiful Camila Batmanghelidjh!

Photo taken from UK Vogue, April 2010, portrait by Bryan Adams
During these early days of this blog I wanted to make sure I included a post on the fantastic Camila Batmanghelidjh, above, whose work and style - her extraordinary clothes made up mostly from fabric she finds on Peckham market - are hugely inspirational! Camila founded Kids Company in 1996 with her own money. The charity provides a service to 14,000 children and young people through street-level centres and works in deprived inner-city schools. As part of the Imagine children's literature festival at the Southbank Centre, Camila will give a talk titled 'Childhood Lost' today at 6.30p.m., on the Clore Ballroom of the Royal Festival Hall. This event will illuminate how Kids Company's intensive use of the arts combined with long-term loving care can powerfully overcome the devastating effects of child abuse and neglect on a child's developing brain. At the Royal Festival Hall's level 2 foyers the project 'Shoebox Living' is also shown between 7th Feb and 7th March. This is an exhibition by Kids Company created by 125 children between the ages of 8 and 10 who were asked to recreate a room from their home in a shoe box and give it a short description. The results provide a fascinating snapshot of the lives of children in urban Britain and below are the photos I took of the installation!
