Plastic Seconds in Environmental Justice Foundation's JUST Pop Up Shop on Carnaby Street

The lovely Supermarket Sarah, with whom Plastic Seconds has now had the pleasure to collaborate with a few times, created just before XMas one of her special walls in EJF's pop up shop on Carnaby Street featuring the fantastic The Rodnik Band (who's very own studio we have visited and blogged about here!). The wall was based around the theme of safer seas, which is one of EJF's campaigns and features The Rodnik Band's 'Cod Save the Sea' collection. AS PART OF SUPERMARKET SARAH'S INVOLVEMENT IN THE POP UP SHOP PLASTIC SECONDS BIRO LID NECKLACES AND EARRINGS HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE AND ARE STILL AVAILABLE THERE UNTIL THE 15TH OF FEBRUARY!

EJF’s pop up shop ‘JUST’ at 46 Carnaby Street sells designer, fairly-traded, organic t-shirts created by top designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Katharine Hamnett, Giles Deacon, Christian Lacroix and many more.

All proceeds from the t-shirts go to the charity and help them to campaign internationally for environmental justice. This is fashion that doesn’t cost the earth and its helping to raise awareness of the abuses in the cotton industry, the issues of climate change and the need to eradicate illegal fishing in West Africa.

Visit to Philip Colbert's (designer of The Rodnik Band) studio for an exclusive interview on his newly launched S/S12 'Cod Save The Sea' diffusion line for ASOS!

In late May I was contacted by The Rodnik Band asking me if I would be interested to interview designer Philip Colbert. I became aware of The Rodnik Band a couple of years ago and LOVED their quirky designs, referencing pop culture, contemporary art and various iconic images. Then last November I was thrilled to see up close a beautifull 'Fish and Chips' gown at the private view of an exhibition by The Stitch Project in which I was showing some of my pieces - you can see my pic of the gown here! They are truly refreshing designs with a lot of wit and I like that they combine thoughtfulness with humour. Philip Colbert designed his S/S12 'Cod Save The Sea' collection in support of the Environmental Justice Foundation's Save The Sea campaign against pirate fishing. To accompany this collection - as he does with almost all of his other collections - Philip made a super cool and entertaining music video, watch it here! It was really lovely to see the studio where all these extraordinary creations are made and to check out preliminary drawings made during the design process. 2011 Leftovers 10: Plastic Seconds at STITCH 'Art for the Earth' show

A few months back Plastic Seconds took part in the first major exhibition and auction by Stitch at The Dairy, near Russel Square. Stitch is an organisation that raises environmental awareness through the arts. Stitch does this by hosting events that use art to inspire and engage people with environmental issues.
This art auction featured the works of 40 artists - both emerging and established - working with a variety of different mediums to communicate a range of environmental issues including; Waste, Loss of Biodiversity, Sustainability, Water, Food, Farming, and more. The pieces started at £20 up to around £15,000 – so there was definitely something for everyone! Works by artists such as Richard Long, Darren Almond, Marc Quinn and Richard Wentworth, as well as many others, were featured. The event was in unison with EJF, Living Earth Foundation, Greenpeace and 10:10. The pieces by Plastic Seconds were modelled on the auction night by members of the Stitch team :-) The fab lady that is Pandemonia attended the show and she featured us on her account of the night here!
